synopsis
Birth Day follows the lives of five students from five different high schools early in their junior year through graduation.
These kids share the day they were born but on the surface, little else.
Different neighborhoods, different upbringings all pursing their dreams, encountering hardships, achieving successes, and giving voice to what it’s like to be a student in America today.
Scholarships
Students cast in Birth Day and working on the film will be rewarded scholarships to go towards furthering their career.
Schedule
Filming is to commence one month into junior year and be completed after high school graduation.
Filming and Production Will Include:

- One-on-one interviews
- Video Diaries
- Day in the life (follows from and to school, events, and gatherings capturing major milestones and ordinary life)
- Additional cast – family members, friends, teachers, mentors
- Working in partnership with Public Source who will be covering the filming in their digital publications and providing overarching narratives. Students may be asked to participate in additional interviews
casting
If you or someone you know is graduating in 2026 and would be interested in submitting to be cast in Birth Day, please fill out the form and submit a 2-3 minute video. Students interested should be enrolled in Allegheny, Westmoreland, Washington, Beaver, Butler, or Fayette County Schools. Public, private, chartered, virtual, or home-schooled welcome.
Videos should include your name, birthday, high school, interests and aspirations. Since you are under 18 you must have a parent/guardian’s approval to submit. Submitting does not mean you will be selected in the final documentary. This submission is consider Round 1 of the audition process, we will be in touch if selected for Round 2. For this project, our crew requires parental/guardian permission to participate. All submissions must include the attached permission slip, signed by a parent or legal guardian.
